Powerful Tools

There are two PowerPoint presentations on the CD. Researchers and facilitators at the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University developed, tested, and improved these presentations and the related notes. Now, the same presentations can be made by all leaders who guide school-based Action Teams for Partnerships to strengthen their partnership programs.

In the introductory section of the CD, See 0_2.ppt, 0_2s.ppt, and 0_3.pdf for a new awareness session in English and Spanish, and related presentation notes.

  • 0_2.ppt Partnerships Then and Now: New Directions for Programs of Family and Community Involvement for Student Success (in English and Spanish). The PowerPoint and presentation notes were added to the CD for the fourth edition of the Handbook to enable leaders for partnerships to present a short overview of the components of effective partnership programs that engage all parents in ways that support student learning and development. In this awareness session, leaders for part- nerships can help district colleagues, school boards, principals, parent leaders, classroom teachers, and other audiences to understand how schools at all levels can organize plans and practices to engage all families in their children’s education.

  • 0_2s.ppt Alianzas antes y ahora. The CD awareness/introductory PowerPoint presentation is provided in Spanish for groups that include parents and community partners whose primary language is Spanish.

  • 0_3 pdf Presentation Notes. Workshop leaders may use or adapt the presentation notes for the awareness/ introductory session to present information and guide discussions in a clear and timely way. See guide- lines and suggestions with the presentation notes.

Selected slides from the two PowerPoints may be used in shorter presentations on school, family, and com- munity partnerships.
