Do all educators understand the basics of social and emotional learning (SEL) and the positive impact it can have on academic achievement? This book introduces SEL competencies and corresponding strategies to model and teach the SEL competencies. In addition to instilling the importance of SEL for students, Start With the Heart addresses the value of beginning with the adults in the school system: If adults do not live out social and emotional competencies in their own lives, they are less likely to be able to teach and model these traits to students.
